Background....In June 2000 the care of patients with Scoliosis in Barbados was maximally improved when Dr. Boachie-Adjei and his surgical team from the USA, under the umbrella of FOCOS-USA, joined the Orthopaedic Service at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Seven children had successful correction of severe scoliosis deformities using ISOLA instrumentation.
In July 2001, at the end of the second and successful surgical initiative involving eleven patients, the need for a society to promote orthopaedic care in Barbados became apparent. With this realisation, members from the multidisciplinary health team, parents and patients who had undergone scoliosis surgery met and FOCOS-Barbados was born. FOCOS-Barbados now joins FOCOS-Ghana as affiliates of FOCOS-USA. All FOCOS corporations are not-for-profit (charity) corporations. FOCOS-Barbados is registered in Barbados as a not-for-profit corporation. Number of scoliosis surgical cases
